Erlangen is a city in the German state of Bavaria, located about 25 kilometers (16 miles) south of Nuremberg. It has a population of around 107,000 people and is known for its university, the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg, which was founded in 1742 and is one of the oldest in Germany.
